Cast of characters:
The Original Florida Five - (Teri, Madame, Kay, Rae and Lucy)
Remington - (Teri and Ross’s German Shepherd)
The Back Story or Clue 1 if you prefer: On the way to Sioux Falls, we stopped in Saint Peter, Minnesota for lunch at Patrick's (An Irish Pub). Rae brought leftovers from her lunch to Teri and Ross's, which consisted of half a jalapeno popper burger. It was in one of those small white styro-foam boxes. Upon arriving at Teri's, the white styro-foam box with the leftover jalapeno burger was placed in the refrigerator.
Clue 2: Shortly after our arrival at Teri's, Remington (the German Shepard) discovered a baggie of cooked bacon in Kay's bag and pulled that out to eat. Kay caught him before he consumed it.
Clue 3: From the outside, Remington is able to open the door into the sunroom when he wants to come back into the house. He can also shoulder the door closed again once he's back inside. He showed off his trick for us several times that night. However, he can't open the door from the inside to let himself outside.
Clue 4: Teri is telling us stories about what a Chow Hound Remington is and how he steals their food. She and Ross had recently purchased one of those already cooked whole chickens for their dinner. While they were involved with conversation and other distractions, Remington silently stole the entire chicken. He lifted it out of the black container on the kitchen counter and consumed it, bone carcass and all! The only evidence they found was a big grease spot on the floor.
We were playing a dice game in the sunroom last night and obviously distracted while playing Zonk. At a break in the activities, we got up to refresh our beverages. And there, in the middle of the dining room floor, was an open, empty, white styro-foam To Go container. There is no furniture in the dining room yet, so this container really stood out. We panicked thinking Remington had somehow opened the refrigerator, removed the To Go box and consumed a spicy hot burger. There was definitely going to be "fire in the hole" when he eliminated it. By this time, we'd had a few cocktails. Okay, maybe more than just a few. We were running around like crazy people, looking for any evidence of the burger. So, the mystery was - how did Remington open the refrigerator, steal and consume that snack without us seeing or hearing him?
Mystery solution: He didn't. He found another small, white styro-foam To Go box in Kay's bag!! There was a piece of spice cake with cream cheese frosting in that box from Kay's Kitchen on the previous Thursday night. She had forgotten that the cake was in there, so she didn’t associate the stolen whole chicken story and him finding her bag of bacon earlier. Her bag was at nose height right by his food and water dishes. Anyway, the jalapeno burger was still safe in the refrigerator, so Remington has not learned how to open the refrigerator...yet. We're still laughing!
